About

Audy Kimura

Composer/Singer Audy Kimura is an unlikely musician. In high school and college he was a competitive rifle shooter at the national level. As a student he graduated in the top 2% of his class from the University of Hawai‘i-Manoa’s College of Business Administration where he won the highest academic award given by the college, The Outstanding Senior in the College of Business and also the coveted Outstanding Senior in Marketing awards. He declined a scholarship to earn an M.B.A. at Northwestern University’s prestigious Kellogg School of Management in order to pursue a career in music and has never looked back.

He is one of the few Hawai‘i artists to earn a major international recording contract (Universal Music and Epic/Sony) and has performed nationally on NBC TV and in Japan.

Audy has produced, composed and engineered 3 award winning albums and his signature #1 song “Lovers & Friends.” Although best known as a musician, he is very involved in marketing–having written and produced 7 national TV commercials in Japan for clients such as NEC Computer, Toyota, Hasegawa Komuten, Dentsu and most recently 7-Eleven Japan’s national TV commercial music, each one seen and heard by millions of viewers. Locally, he composes, performed and produces music for TV including signature “One of the Good Things About Hawai‘i,” theme songs for OC16’s “Hawaii Goes Fishing,” and co-composed the original score for the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival selection “The Land Has Eyes” in 2004. In 2006, Audy made his debut as a video Producer creating commercials and longer videos for Charley’s Taxi, Battery Bill (including the hit jingle), Shriners Hospital for Children, the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council among others and earned two national Telly Awards in 2011.

In addition to his 8 Na Hoku awards, he has won 8 national awards for video scoring including the U.S. International Film & Video Festival 1st Place Gold Camera, Silver Screen, Hometown Video Festival and Telly awards. In 1998, Audy was inducted into Marquis’ Who’s Who In Entertainment In America. His guitar playing has earned him sponsorships from guitar manufacturers Washburn and Godin.

Having started his musical career as a recording engineer at Sounds of Hawai‘i studio, his engineering credits include Don Ho, Mackey Feary, Teddy Randazzo and numerous others. In 1994, Audy was appointed as the Consultant for Acoustics & Sound System Design by the Hawai‘i Convention Center and remained for testing and certification in 2000.

He has also completed 2 Honolulu Marathons, the 5 Mile Invitational Ocean Swim, the 100 mile Century Bicycle Ride, placed 2nd in his class at the National Rifle Championships and was an Aloha State Games medalist and earned a AA rating (highest classification) in skeet shooting. Audy celebrated his 26th anniversary at Hy’s Steak House in June 2013 and call his performances there “my therapy.”
